Junior Olympic Cross-Country Program

The Landshark JO XC program is for 7 to 14 year olds. Athletes focus on preparing for successful Junior and Senior High School careers.  Runners learn proper training & race techniques, diet, injury prevention, team tactics, and having fun running XC.

This is a great training group for Middle School athletes who need to prepare for longer races for high school 5K races. We run 4K distance in the age group. They usually start the second week of October once their school season is over.

Practices are not mandatory; athletes participate to the degree that they are able. The time will move to 4:30 - 5:30 PM once we go off daylight savings time.

Athletes are placed on a Junior Olympic team based on their results from the 2nd race of the series.

Qualifying Information for Nationals
The top 25 finishers in each age group at the USATF  State Championship will qualify individually to compete at the Region X Championship, as will the top three, eight-person teams. Team scoring is calculated using the top five finishers from a team. If a team finishes in the top three, all members of the team, whether they were scored or not, are eligible to move on to the USATF Region X Championship, provided that they were one of the top eight Landshark finishers in their age group. If more than one team moves on, then more runners are eligible, but your overall rank in relationship to other Landshark finishers will determine on which team you are placed.

At the Region X Championship the top 20 individuals and three teams qualify for the National Championships. Coaches will use their discretion in making team placements if a top-five runner is unable to compete in a "team selection" race for medical, family emergency, valid prior commitment reasons, or for other unforeseeable events.

At the JO Nationals, athletes finishing in the top 25 in their age group are designated as USATF Junior All-Americans.
