2010 Junior Olympic Cross-Country Program

Welcome to 2010 Landsharks Running Club Junior Olympic Development Program.

This program is to prepare runners to compete at the next level above our school program. Runners will run with appropriate ability group based on their age, current level of training, and physiological maturity. The USA Track & Field JO XC and AAU XC Championship run longer distances than the Landsharks Fall Series, runners 12 and younger run 1.86 miles(3,000m) and the 13-14 year olds run 2.46 miles(4,000m).

Junior high runners (6th-8th Graders, older midgets, youth boys & girls) who have trained 4 to 5 days per week will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 – 5:00PM each week. Runners will meet on the track at TCA North Campus, by Northgate and Voyager. These practices are the hard training runs for each week; runner will run two more practices on their own. Practice will start with a 15 minute warm-up, 30-45 minute run, 5-10 minutes of speed/hill work, 5 minutes of active cool-down and 15 minutes of core exercises. This program prepares athletes to run longer distances in USATF and for the 5,000m races in high school. Athletes are prepared to have successful high school careers in cross country and track.

Elementary runners (3rd-6th Graders, bantam and midgets) who have not trained with a junior high/middle school program will train on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00-6:00PM. After daylight savings time ends the group will run on Saturday mornings instead of Fridays.. group will meet by the basketball courts in Cottonwood Park near Dublin and Rangewood Rd. Practice will consist of a 15 minute warm-up, 30 minutes of running, games, 15 minutes of cool down and core exercises. Athletes are encourage to run an additional day on their own.

Program costs are $70 for training and membership or $35 for membership to race with the team without training. Travel to the state, regional, and national championships is at each family’s expense. Athletes will need to purchase a two year USATF license from November 1-3. Those who choose the AAU events will need to buy a AAU license if they choose to compete at the national championships. Runners can purchase a team singlet ($25) or use a team leased singlet ($10) for the season. Cost for travel to El Paso, Orlando, and Reno are all about $200 per trip. Entry fees are from $6 to $20 for each race. You choose which meets you want to attend and attempt to qualify for the next higher championship. We will need at least one family member to volunteer to help run the November 7 race in Centennial, CO. We are the host.
